The Building

As it is today!
The 9,000+ square-foot Farmers Supply Inc. building was constructed in 1928, according to records from the Commissioner of Revenue. The two-story rusticated concrete block and wooden-pegged heavy timber framed building supplied feed, among other products, to the area farmers.

Old Freight Elevator shaft and gates.
The building was built alongside the Southern and Chesapeake-Western Railway tracks for efficient shipping access. There is a wonderful, and still operational, freight elevator that runs from the basement storage area to the second floor.

Old Granary.
Farmers Supply Inc. operated contiguously from about 1930 to 2005.
The adaptive re-use of the building for the Mount Jackson Farmers' Market will honor the history of the building, its connection to community and serve as a reminder of a by-gone era.
We are seeking any pictures from the local community to showcase the years of the Farmers Supply Inc.'s service in and to the community.

We welcome any stories, and especially old pictures of the place when it was in operation, past owners/workers, etc. We'll be glad to post them here, and if we receive enough, would be more than happy to create a "Memory Lane Wall" in the space when it's complete!
