Insurance, electric, phone, DSL, water, business license, other licenses, permits ... Oh My! I've been on the phone for the past 48 hours. Have I forgot anything?

![]() What can I say? Patience is perhaps not one of my greatest virtues. Fortunately, Perseverance is. While we continue to have great discussions with the Town, we were/are hoping to have at least the outdoor market up and running by this weekend, so that our vendors can take advantage of the holiday weekend, as well as the nearby Bryce Fest. We will know tomorrow if this will happen or not. Most likely it will have to wait until after the Planning Commission Meeting and Town Council Meeting on July 11 and 12, respectively. Which means that the outdoor market date may have to wait until July 16. In the meantime, we continue to seek out the BEST products the Valley has to offer. Do you know of any? Do you have any local favorites? We want to make them available to you. Let us know. Keep telling friends and family. Find us on Facebook. (We're at 91 "likes" as I type this post. Hmmm... I should offer something to the 100th person... perhaps a day of helping us swing a hammer. For the 1000th person, we will crack open a bottle of champagne together when you come into the store.) We plan to offer a scaled-back version (700 square feet) of the full market as soon as possible, with a single cashier. This smaller market will have all the necessary items, such as locally-grown produce, grass fed meat, local honey, a few local wines, maybe even a few nifty local artisan pieces. We continue to develop plans for sprucing up the place. Think rustic barn board...should go nicely with the heavy timber structure already in place. Thank you for your continued support. We have only been at this for just over three weeks now, and daily continue to meet new and wonderful folks who will help make this a truly great experience, right here in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. ![]() The Front Porch of the Market I love front porches. These are outdoor spaces, open to the world, inviting, the place where neighbors meet to chat. The Markets' front porch is about 95 feet long! Lots of space for lots of friends and even more great conversations. We may loose a few to the new ADA ramp, but will still have room for plenty of rocking chairs. Hard to believe that it has been a week already since signing the purchase agreement, starting the website, the blog, the dialogs, etc. We've met with contractors everyday this week, gathering pricing for this that and the other thing. We have tried to pace ourselves, but a project like this is truly a marathon versus a sprint. Our newest news is that we heard back from the Town within 24 hours after submitting our application! This is a wonderful encouragement and means that they are as excited about, or at least interested in, this project as much as we are. We were requested, understandably, to provide a bit of additional information for the Town to be able to properly review the application. This is not abnormal in the least bit, and we are happy to do so of course. As we have said elsewhere, this is a community effort, about community, and for the community. The next scheduled Town Council Meeting is June 14th, at 7:30 PM, at the Town Hall on Main Street, so put it on your calendars now, and please show up to express your support. Back to conversations... We wish you the best of them this weekend! |
