Community Supported Agriculture
The Mount Jackson Farmers' Market is proud to partner with Public House Produce to provide CSA shares for 2012.
"CSA Share Boxes" are your guarantee to the freshest, local bounty of produce each week during the growing season.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) consists of individuals who pledge in advance to support a farm operation, agreeing to share in the anticipated seasonal start-up-costs. In return, the season’s harvest is distributed among participating members.
By joining a CSA, you express your support for locally grown food and to the farmers who grow it. A CSA creates a unique relationship between the consumers and the producers—nowadays, not many people actually know the farmer who picked the tomatoes they are eating!
How it works:
Members purchase shares by May 1st. Share boxes will be available at the Market for pick-up on Wednesdays.
Each week during the growing season, vegetable shares are harvested and distributed via CSA SHARE BOXES. The exact dates of the season are weather dependent - with the season typically beginning the last week of May and ending the first week of October. The variety of produce depends on the season, but he boxes are always full to the brim with the freshest, local produce available. At the beginning of the season, quantities tend to be smaller, with a focus on salad and greens. By the middle of the season, the variety and quantity is at its greatest. For many members, it is a completely new experience to follow the growing season so closely. With the CSA boxes, you will receive a weekly e-mail newsletter with food preparation tips, recipes, crop news, and other items of interest.

- People who don't really like to cook or who don't eat at home often.
- Folks who don't like vegetables or who don't like trying new foods.
